LAVENDER FIELD IN CAMPBELLCROFT, ONTARIO

A summer goal of mine is crossed off! YUS! My BFF Katie and I went on a mini road trip to Campbellcroft, Ontario which is a small town east of Toronto, sort of near the Peterborough area. Aka, farm town. We went along the cow ridden, dirt roads for one reason – TO FROLIC IN A FIELD FULL OF LAVENDER! I used to despise the smell of lavender, but it’s currently one of my all-time favourite scents. It’s scientifically proven to relax and calm you and is a natural stress relief (I need allllllll of that in my life right now). We ended up going to the Laveanne Lavender Field instead of the one in Milton (Terre Bleu Lavender Field) because.. well.. it was free to enter, compared to $20 (!!) entrance fee at Terre Blue. At 9am we packed the car with snacks, went to Tim’s for an Iced Capp (obvs), and hit the road on our summer adventure. The field was simple to find and arrived around 10:30am. It wasn’t busy when we got …

SPENDING TIME WITH THE FAM

Hey friends, I hope your summer is going well and that you’re embracing any and all awkward tan lines. I’ve been enjoying the warm weather with the fam jam as much as I can because I’ve missed too many birthdays and holiday celebrations over the past two years. I need to make up for lost time! If you’ve never met the Moy gang before, then you’re in for a little treat. Check out my vlog below as I spend time with my parents, brothers, and precious little niece, Mila. I also chat about my experience thus far with condo hunting in Toronto and, to be honest, I have no idea WTF I’m doing.. but I’m on my way! For instant updates you can follow me on Instagram because I’m on there, always. IG: @Jessica_Moy

10 THINGS I NEED TO UPDATE YOU ON

HI FRIENDS! I haven’t posted in a month.. and a few days.. BUT I AM HERE! ALIVE! It feels goooooood to be writing a blog post again. I know it’s been awhile and I definitely owe you a catch-up. So, grab a snack? While you’re at it, grab one for me too. Unless it’s a bag of baby carrots, celery or an apple. Then I’ll pass. Still love ya, even though you may have terrible taste in snack options. ANYWAY! While I was in the shower tonight, nicking my ankles while shaving, I thought about how this dumb little blog has been around for six years. SIX. YEARS. It has seen me through university, various jobs, questionable outfits, boyfriends, moving across the globe, traveling, etc, etc. All of this to say.. I love this space, a lot. Even though I don’t write on this blog as often as I would like, you my dear readers are ALWAYS on my mind. How are you doing BTW? Did you get a new haircut? You look great! 😉 10 …

MY SUMMER GOALS 2018

As I’m writing this post, there is 5ft of snow outside my doorstep (LOL.. it’s April) so writing a summer goals list feels a little odd. If you’re a long time reader (bless your sweet soul), you know that I start my list in May and go until the end of August. The month of May is exactly two weeks away (!!) and I’m about to get crackin’ on my goals whether there is still snow on the ground or not. Plz note: If there is snow fall in May, I’m literally moving my ass to Mexico. Last summer I had 10 goals I wanted to accomplish, but life got in the way and my focus shifted, leaving the list unintentionally abandoned. *cries* I did cross off a solid 6 out of 10, which is a pass, but still disappointing. Now that I am back in Canada, a majority of my summer will be spent focusing on my career so, I’ve narrowed the list down to 5 goals. Still cute and fun but manageable, ya …

THE FINAL ONE: GOODBYE SOUTH KOREA

Two years later, here we are. My bags are packed and I’m ready to leave South Korea, the place that has made me constantly crave spicy food, challenged me with language barriers and (many) cultural differences. The place I pushed my limits, challenged myself, fell in love, and battled loneliness. The place I found inner strength, discovered the power of my voice, and (most importantly) a place I felt safe and called home. Busan, South Korea will always have a special place in my heart. I’ll miss the mountains, beaches, prompt public transportation, cheap convenience store ice cream, and of course, my students. Leaving has been an extremely emotional and overwhelming process. I was not prepared for how much it hurts to say goodbye to people, places, and memories. But such is life. You grow and move on. Currently I am in Seoul, wandering around the city until my departure on Sunday. I’ve been taking my time to walk in and out of shops and discovering new places such as the COEX Mall‘s Starfield Library, which holds …

NEW YEAR, NEW ME?

HAPPY 2018 MY LOVES! Typically around the holiday season I get a little somber, especially since it’s my third year in a row away from my family. But, if I learned anything from the past few years is that you make your own happiness. I repeat: YOU MAKE YOUR OWN HAPPINESS! Instead of curling into a ball and hiding away, on Christmas Eve I headed to Seoul to be with my friend Annie and celebrate December 25th with red bean donuts, ice skating, and treating myself with skincare related prezzies. And of course, I vlogged it all for ya. My New Years Eve was way less eventful. I bundled up at home in my thickest blanket, gathered my favorite junk food (chicken burgers, french fries, popcorn, and chocolate ice cream), and had a solo Harry Potter movie marathon. It. Was. Ah-mazing. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is by far the best movie of them all. I fell asleep around 11PM (lol, living the dream!) and woke up at 1:30AM with texts from my family …

THE HOLIDAYS ARE HERE

Christmas isn’t a big deal on this side of the world, it’s another Valentine’s Day for couples to hold hands, take pictures with pretty lights, and have a quarrel by 8PM. You’re not in an official relationship in Korea until one of you storms off in rage in public. Sighhh, I love witnessing real life K-dramas. It also doesn’t snow in Busan so it hardly feels like the festive season. But even when the weather does get below zero, I still order vanilla milkshakes (I can’t be the only one!) because how could you say no when it comes with a topping of caramel corn! There have been a couple frigid days in the city, but that’s just a valid excuse to eat a copious amount of hot noodle soups. Whether it’s ramen, pho, or a kimchi jjigae, noodles are my ultimate comfort food. My favourite kind of noods are the ones sold in the alley ways of Nampo. You just pop a squat with an ajumma and eat what they serve ya. This isn’t the …

SEXUAL ASSAULT: SHE’S NEVER “ASKING FOR IT”

Sexual assault must never be tolerated. Period. Any form of inappropriate touching without consent is not ok, even if it’s a person you know or consider a friend. Saying “no” doesn’t have to turn into a fight, it’s not a debate or up for discussion. No means no. Unfortunately, the word no is sometimes not taken seriously and because of this I (and millions of other men/women) have been grabbed, groped, pushed, forced, pressured, hurt.. the list goes on. The way I dealt with sexual assault was I suppressed. If I didn’t talk about it, it never happened. But it did. It has happened to me and it wasn’t until my most recent encounter that I went over the edge. Enough is enough. I came home from work, pressed record, and made the below video. Nervous to hit the publish button, I didn’t know how it would be received. Will I be judged? Not understood? Am I revealing too much information? Then I thought of the millions of men and women who are also victims of sexual assault and …

IT’S OK

It’s ok to be on your own. Take time for self-care. It’s ok to not understand. Not everything needs to have an explanation. We are currently living on a planet that no one knows the exact age of, spiraling hurndreds of miles per hour in vast darkness, in a universe filled with matter we can’t truly identify. Yet, here we are. It’s ok to stand up for yourself. Don’t let people walk all over you just because they’re louder. Let them know your truth. It’s ok to be sad. Ugly cry it out. Scream at the top of your lungs. Let yourself feel your way through. It’s ok to miss him. He misses you too. It’s ok to give into a moment of weakness. Be honest with your feelings and remind yourself how far you’ve come. You will make mistakes but you’re also capable of making radical changes. It’s ok to fall asleep early. Put your phone on airplane mode, slather a thick layer of lavender scented lotion on your chest, and go to bed …

I WENT BACK HOME TO CANADA

I haven’t wrote a regular catch-up-with-me blog post in awhile.. eek. Well, I guess it’s time for you to grab a cup of tea and take a seat because I’m feeling chatty! Also, I need to fill you in quickly about my life in Korea so the first half of this post is dedicated to that, and I apologize in advance as I know my thoughts will be all over the place. READY? LET’S GO! I am only in Busan for another 4-ish months and then I’m hitting the ground running toward my next adventure. People have been asking me what I’ll miss about South Korea and honestly, I couldn’t tell you because I haven’t been away long enough to know. Perhaps the kind people? Convenience stores at every corner? Cheap public transportation? The food? Well, maybe not so much the food, Korean BBQ.. MAYBE..I know I’ll miss are the picture perfect parks. I recently went for a 5km run at Samnak Riverside, the place with the best running trails in the city. My 10km marathon in Chuncheon is …

I’M OFFICIALLY 27 – HERE’S EVERYTHING I WANT TO ACCOMPLISH THIS YEAR

If you couldn’t already tell from the title.. IT’S MY BIRTHDAY TODAY! This year, I’m surprisingly less excited to celebrate. I know, who am I anymore?! I can’t pin-point a reason why I’m feeling subdued. Perhaps I’m still jet-lagged from my recent trip back home to Canada and reaction time has been delayed. Or, it’s because I’ve discovered more than one grey hair on my head and it feels like my youth has officially ended. Serious question, if I pluck a grey hair out, do more grow in? Or, is that a myth? Please advise. ANYWAY! I came into the world 27 years ago (holy shit I’m almost 30!) and if you remember from last year, here were the goals I wanted to achieve at 26. Let’s see how I did: 1. Write a book. This didn’t happen because it’s still not the time. As much as I want to sit down and commit to my writing, I’m constantly sidetracked with other projects. One day I will write a goddamn book but (again..) this wasn’t the year. SOON! …

SUMMER LIST 2017 | ACCOMPLISHED GOALS

This morning I looked at the date in my calendar: August 31st. It’s Thursday, which means I have soccer after work, gotta visit the bank at some point, and then.. it registered. I lowered my head in shame and muttered “ah shit” beneath my breath. Today is the deadline for accomplishing my summer goals and I’m going to be totally honest, I forget ALL about them. To be fair, I did say last year that I needed to step it up, and I ended up being too ambitious, if that’s a thing. Awell. Life goes on. Read below for my accomplishments and weak ass excuses for this years summer goals. JESSICA’S SUMMER GOALS 2017! 1. Visit Namhae Island and go to the German Village. I went on my own (because, lack of friends) but ended up meeting spectacular people along the way. The day turned out to be one of the best I’ve had in South Korea! 2. Attend Ultra in Seoul. Another event I went to all by myself (lol) but yet again I met up with wonderful people and danced the night …
