TOP 10 THINGS I LEARNED WHILE IN CUBA

1. Hot-cups on an airplane are always a good idea.

Especially when you look this good.

2. Aloe is your best friend.

Or else…

3. Never leave valuables outside your hotel room.

Anything and everything you don’t keep your eye on, will get likely get stolen. This means not leaving your bathing suit outside to dry. Right Kyle? On a happier note, look how nice our room was!

4. Always leave tips for the maid.

She may not leave you with clean sheets or towels but who can stay mad when she surprises you with an entire bottle of rum on your bed.

5. Never dance-dare a brides groom at a club.

She and her mother will not like it.

6. Don’t eat the cheese.

Unless you want a date with the toilet that night. This was the food I tried to stick with every day. Mmm, that mango was SO good!

7. Two extra-strong Gravols in the middle of the day are never a good idea.

No matter how sick you feel those pink little pills will knock you out for HOURS. This is me staying in, watching Conan. You can tell I learned the hard way.

8. Beer and rum-slush at 8 a.m. is socially acceptable.

But only in Cuba.

…and I guess in college as well.

9. The catamaran was one of the BEST times of my life.

Especially when snorkelling and dolphins are involved.

10. Go with a bunch of goons you love.

No moment will be a dull one.

Caught my first fish!

Another summer goal crossed off!

5. Go to Keswick and canoe/fish on the lake with my boyfriend.

The past two days my boyfriend and I ventured to Keswick to relax, hang out, and get away from our jobs to enjoy some summer to ourselves. During the day we mostly spent our time reading on his back porch (because we can be an elderly couple sometimes), barbecued some hamburgers, and watched more episodes of Gilmore Girls (currently on season 4, where Rory goes off to Yale).

Before dinner, Kyle and I went to go sit by the lake. Pretty huh?

It was a private area that was fenced off, but we hopped the fence anyway ’cause we’re reckless and young… obviously. While I was hopping over, trying to be some sort of “rebellious” teenager, a piece of the fence caught onto my jean pocket and ripped a small whole. Not the smartest idea I’ve ever had, but I think it adds character.

In the evening, his mom would start cooking dinner where she would make the BEST steak and potatoes in the entire WORLD! I don’t know what seasoning she uses or how she prepares them, but I told Kyle it’s honestly my favourite dinner anyone could ever make for me, but…don’t tell my own mom that.

We went to the movies after dinner and saw “Snow White and the Huntsman” starring Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth. First 15 minutes were fantastic, but the movie sadly declined. Adequate entertainment to say the least.

On the second night, before shamelessly watching the LA Kings lose to the NJ Devils, Kyle took out fishing rods from his garage, bought a bucket of worms from a convenience store (only in Keswick) and we went off on our own little fishing adventure. I thought I’d be able to leave my girly-girl side of me behind and be able to grab a nice juicy worm from the bucket and stick it on the hook myself…but there was NO way it was happening. THE WORMS WERE HUGE! So, like a gentleman, Kyle did it for me! 🙂

Next time I’ll do it myself, I swear.

He also taught me how to “cast the line” in the water. In the process of his demonstration, his line got tangled in the water and had to reel it back in. When he did, THERE WAS A FISH ON HIS HOOK! Show off.

I gave it a go and within 3 minutes, I CAUGHT MY FIRST FISH! I was overly-excited and anyone who walked by at this moment knew I was not someone from “around these parts” since I was SO excited to catch the tiniest fish in the lake.

We released all we caught, but I snatched a good 5 different kinds of fish within the 20 minutes we were out there. I told Kyle next time we go up to Keswick, we have to get a boat and catch the big guys out in the lake. I think I’m ready to catch them bigger fish for dinner.

10 things I need to start doing

1. Drink a lot more water
I drink at least 2 or 3 glasses a day, but I need to triple that!

2. Eat fruit and vegetable and natural foods
I’m trying my best this summer to eat a little more healthily. For snacks instead of grabbing for chips or cookies, I go for cheese slices or carrots. But, sometimes I will cave in and eat an entire carton of ice cream. I need to stop doing that.

3. Read a book
I want to read A LOT more but when I get home from work I crash and don’t want to do anything but sleep and veg. I do bring a book to work and read on my break, but I want to read more than just fifteen minutes a day.

4. Go to bed earlier
11:30pm is early for me, so around that time is usually my goal every night.

5. Do not judge or compare myself to others
We all have this problem.

6. Do not pull things off
Especially in the summer when I’m always feeling a little lazy. I need to start being productive on my days off.

7. Do more pilates
I do pilates at least twice a week, but I should get in the habit of doing it every other day.

8. Live in a tidy space
I do my best, I swear.

9. Remember that all the effort you are making now will pay off in the end
I need to have this written somewhere in my room.

10. Go outside more.
Like…A LOT more. When’s the last time I was on a bike? Probably when I was 10.

So Cool by Sistar

I count for at least half of the views of the 16 million the song “So Cool” by Sistar has on YouTube.

I’m tempted to just drop everything, move to Korea, and star in my own K-pop band. I’m Asian so I count – right? I mean, I can rock it like this.
