What I want for Christmas – 2013

I’ve been noticing my “What I Want For Christmas” post from last year is getting a lot of hits. Makes sense. It’s the festive holiday season and civilians on the interweb are on the hunt for gift ideas. So, I thought to myself – “what do I want for Christmas this year…” I typically write a list of materialistic items, print it out and leave it on the fridge for various family members to see. While I’d appreciate a nice knitted sweater or two, to be honest, I don’t want anything. Seriously. I don’t NEED anything. Plus, what I truly want this year is not something someone can wrap in a big red bow. Lately, I’ve been making a serious effort to re-start myself. This means working on my confidence, health, learning new skills, letting a variety of new friends into my life and most importantly, pin-pointing exactly where I want my career to go. It’s certainly a process, but an important one nonetheless. The year 2014 is a fresh canvas and I’ve been preparing myself to be …

I’m OFFICIALLY 23 – here’s everything I want to accomplish this year

MY BIRTHDAY (which was on Oct. 13) WAS AMAZING!  Here are 5 goals I WILL achieve while I am 23! (I say “WILL” with confidence because when I have my mind set on something, I’ll stop at nothing until I achieve it.) 1. I WILL move to New York City. Williamsburg Brooklyn preferably. 2. I WILL get my first full-time PAID job. 3. I WILL eat healthier. 4. I WILL admit and apologize when I’m wrong. 5. I WILL (not only) shake-hands with new people I meet, but genuinely try to get to know them. I want to ask as many people who influence me to give me a list of their favourite books, songs and movies so I can introduce myself to new ways of thinking and get to know the people I love a little more. If you’re interested, here is my list. – Favourite book: “Fifth Step” by Richard Van Camp (which is actually a short story in his book “Angel Wing Splash Pattern”). – Favourite song: “Say” by John Mayer – Favourite movie: …

Final thoughts on summer (and summer list update)

Every summer, I have goals. I write them down in list form and every year I try to complete it. Some summers I am successful, other summers (like this one), I am not. Although, it’s not for a lack of trying. Life happens, you change, things come up, etc. The summer started out with reality slapping me right in the face. May was a month of heartbreak. However, after picking myself up and discovering a new found feeling of independence, it was time to focus on me. My summer list was out of the question. I had absolutely NO free time to do anything. I was on the go 24/7. June rolled around and I officially graduated! As much as I felt excited, I was extremely overwhelmed. New questions started to roll into my mind – what’s next for me? Where do I want to work? Where do I want to live? I’ve never put myself through this kind of stress. Hence, the shingles. Honestly, the shings were probably the best thing to happen to me that month. …

The happiest people have…

I was reading a post on Lauren Conrad’s website called, “Ten Important Lessons They Don’t Teach You In School.” She had great advice to share such as “make your mother proud” and “never settle.” However, this one was my favourite… 7. The happiest people have low expectations, few desires, and great appreciation for the little things. Every so often, we are all guilty of focusing on things we don’t have, things we want, and things that aren’t perfect in our lives. These thoughts will only lead to an ungrateful mentality, and the never-ending search for a “perfect” life that doesn’t exist. It is great to have goals and things to look forward to. Don’t get me wrong—I love saving up for a brand new purse as much as any girl! But I find that I am much happier when I focus on the small blessings and the things I have instead of worrying about what I don’t have. Take a few minutes each day to yourself and think about how grateful you are for your family, your friends, …
