FASHION MAGAZINE INTERNSHIP ADVICE

Hello all! I hope the first month of 2018 has been treating you kindly and that you’re smashing all of your bad ass new years resolutions. If not, that’s ok, you’ve got a whole new month coming up to try again. RESILIENCE IS KEY! If one of your goals this year is to get more involved in the fashion and/or editorial world, you’ve likely played around with the idea of internships. Internships are a way to kick-start your career, build relationships, and gain experience working in the field you’re interested in. I created a video almost 5 years ago (yup.. 5.. years.. ago..) titled: My Fashion Magazine Internship Advice. I get questions in the comments section of this video all of the time and thought it was time for an update. If you want to watch baby Jessica, a recent graduate who went through a plethora of internships and had sweet side bangs, you can watch THAT video below. Now for the updated version. I created a video on Get Up & Go Girl (have you subscribed? You should …

WISE LIFE ADVICE FROM A VOGUE EDITOR

I stumbled upon a Vogue  article written by Contributing Editor Molly Guy about the 40 things she’s learned on her 40 years on earth. I loved her honesty and rawness and wanted to share a few of my favs. 1. Smoking cigarettes is the stupidest thing you can do. 2. Don’t believe the hype about high school sex. Anything you learned about losing your virginity is a marketing ploy invented by Aaron Spelling to make your 14-year-old self feel ugly and in need of new breasts. In two decades a lady named Lena Dunham will appear on the scene and relieve gals everywhere of the burden to be a mute hairless newt with no subjectivity during sexual intercourse. In the meantime, if it doesn’t feel good, say no and stop. 3. Miracles happen. That girl you thought would never fall in love will fall in love. That sibling who pledged to never speak to you again will speak to you again. Your friend with three failed rounds of IVF and two miscarriages will soon call you …

#OOTD: JESSICA MOY, SENIOR ACCOUNT COORDINATOR

If you ever wondered what in the world I do at my job or what influences my personal style, check out the Q&A I did with the Lotus Leaf Style Blog! 1. What does a typical day look like for you? I’m typically the first one at the office (keener status) so, getting my coffee or making breakfast is always priority #1. After that, day-to-day tasks vary. I oversee Lotus Leaf’s social pages, the blog (heh heh), communicate with media, often providing product info or hi-res images as well as assist when it comes to activation on various accounts (media list building, monthly reports or research). We also throw amazing events at Lotus Leaf and I’ll help with the planning and execution, which is one of my favourite parts of the job! 2. What do you love most about your career at Lotus Leaf? My position as Senior Account Coordinator combines creative writing, editing, media relations, event planning, social media, styling and it’s all within the realm of fashion & beauty. How could I not love …

Weddingbells Fall/Winter ’13 & FASHION August ’13

There’s no other feeling like seeing your work and name published inside a magazine. Weddingbells F/W ’13 issue came out this month and I can’t believe how amazing it turned out! Not that I’m surprised, the team was awesome to work with and they’re all super talented. I worked on two photoshoots as a style assistant (and drooled over all the pretty dresses), wrote a national wedding and various other real weddings – all published in this issue! It’s so, so beautiful. I seriously almost cried of happiness. You should pick up a copy, it’s 422 pages of magic. FASHION August ’13 issue with Demi Lovato also came out this month. I truly hope that feeling of accomplishment and seeing my name published never gets old.
