Why I can’t leave my house and am restricted from old folks homes

For a couple weeks, I haven’t quite been myself.

I’ve been extremely tired, not really eating and energy level notably low. A couple weeks ago I started to notice I was losing weight, been getting painful migraines, high fevers at night and developing unpleasant blisters on one side of my mouth. It came to the point where I was upset all the time because I was in so much pain and was scared to know what my body was telling me. My mom finally took me to see the dentist, since it was the blisters in my mouth that was probably causing all the agony.

At the dentist, they took a few x-rays, looked around and immediately knew what I had.

Shingles.

You’re probably thinking, “What? Don’t old people typically get that?” Yes they do, which is why I’m restricted from visiting old folks homes. However, it’s not uncommon for young people like myself to develop shingles as well.

My dentist told me shingles come from the same virus as the chicken pox. Once you have the chicken pox as a kid, the virus stays in your nerves system. When your immune system is weak or you’re stressed, it comes back through your nerves system, typically on one side of your body in the form of blisters or rashes. Shingles can’t be cured, but there are prescription drugs you can take to help the swelling and the pain.

So, that’s where I am at this point. I’m bedridden, bored and watching movies until further notice.

My graduation is in three days so, hopefully I feel better by then. The good news is I do feel better today compared to yesterday, but we’ll see. If you have any questions or jokes or cute animal videos to send me (since I’m literally in my bed with nothing to do), they will be greatly appreciated.

Lesson to be learned? Keep your immune system healthy and don’t stress yourself out.

Greta Constantine Fall 2013 backstage beauty: Warrior-inspired hair and “beautifully unfinished” makeup

MY FIRST BACKSTAGE BEAUTY STORY IS PUBLISHED! 🙂

Greta-Constantine-Fall-2013-backstage-beauty-main

“A sense of tribal,” is how Stephen Wong—one half of the Greta Constantinedesign duo—described the beauty look for the label’s Fall 2013 collection. When presenting the looks last night, models were turned into fierce warriors, goddesses and Amazonians with textured hair, smoky eyes and geometric, neutral nails. “We took our cues from Oribe [Canales], a hairstylist who did all the supermodels in the ’90s,” Wong says. “I remember looking at the shows he’d do and thinking the hair was amazing. It had a sense of tribal, but very cool and modern feel to it.”

Sebastian core stylist Daniel Di Tommaso was the lead for the three different hairstyles, inspired by three variations of tribal. “All three hair looks were tight on the sides but textured on top to blend all the girls together.”

St. Tropez – Fiona Locke

Today I went to my first beauty event for FASHION Magazine! I met with celebrity tanning expert (yes, that’s a title) Fiona Locke, who spoke with me about the amazing St. Tropez self-tanning lotions and sprays! Chatting with Fiona was amazing, she’s such a sweetheart! Her skin was flawless (obviously) and answered all my questions with enthusiasm and passion.

Her most fascinating self-tanning tip: If you have acne on your body or face, use concealer on these areas before applying the tanning sprays. It will create a barrier and won’t irritate the skin further.

You’ve either been a loyal consumer to these products for years or you’re just discovering them now because once you go St. Tropez, you truly never go back. Along with a free pedicure from AXI the Spa on Yorkville, I also got to try out the St. Tropez exfoliator and tanning mousse. The products are easy to apply, smell good and does the job (exactly what everyone looks for in self-tanners). The beautician was even telling me that dozens of men come in specifically for St. Tropez spray tans, people just love this stuff! I don’t blame ’em.

Top 10 Things I Learned In British Columbia

1. I’m obsessed with the seafood

Every meal I ordered had some sort of swimming fish creature in it. The salmon was the best (unless it was candied salmon, gross).

2. Always choose the dirty clubs

If you have a choice to go to a sophisticated club or a dirty one. Always pick the dirty one. You are guaranteed to have WAY more fun.

Unless there is a lifeguard to save me from riptides and where I won’t be eaten by sharks and stung by jellyfish. My worst fear of deep water and getting lost out at sea almost came true. Fun while it lasted though.

Lost In Translation

05_Molly_VogueTable0613

Vogue: June 2013

“There are times when you can feel your childhood ending. It can be the birth of a child, the death of a loved one. For me, that moment in the dressing room was it. The professional work ethic that had been instilled in me since I was a little girl was shocked back to life, and I knew that not only would this man prevent me from being able to do my job, he would prevent me from growing into the strong and confident woman I needed to become…ending relationships is always difficult, but leaving Paris broke my heart. It took years to disentangle the man from the city that I had fallen for, and I found that it was impossible to go back. When I finally broke down and did visit, it was with the American man I ended up marrying and our four-year-old daughter over Christmas, fifteen years after I had moved there…“why are we here again?” my daughter asked…”because,” I told her, “this is where Mommy grew up.”
