Infinite Possibilities

Last night, my friend Katie and I shared the hammock in my backyard as we gazed upon tiny flashing lights from soaring airplanes above. “Where do you think that plane is going?” “Bermuda, probably.” We laughed and continued to point out other airplanes passing by. We guessed which exotic locations they were off to and felt jealous of the adventures those passengers were about to embark on, or stories others have as they fly back home. “Do you ever think about how small we are?” “What do you mean?” “We live on this earth, we work, get married, retire and then we die. That’s it. We just, die.” “Yeah. I do think about that, a lot actually. It makes me want to get up and go places, do something before life just..ends.” “If you were to reincarnate, what would you want to be?” “An otter. Or a really pretty Christmas tree.” Katie and I laughed, mostly at how long we held that conversation without cracking a joke. As our hammock gently rocked, the smell of mid-summer dew from freshly …

Footlogix Foot Deodorant

I know I’m not the only one who’s ever taken their flats off after a long day of work and noticed a slight stench coming from the shoe area. You know exactly what I’m talking about. It’s summer, you’re barely ever wearing socks so feet are bound to get a little sweaty. As a result, it’s perfectly normal for them to not smell like jasmine cherry blossoms or your mom’s freshly baked cookies. Of course, you can try remedies such as sprinkling baby powder or trying to hide the stench with strongly scented lotions, but might I suggest something meant for situations such as this? Footlogix Foot Deodorant Spray ($19). I’ve been carrying this sucker EVERYWHERE with me this summer. It’s compact to fit in my purse and whenever I need a nice refreshment I take it out, spritz it all over my feet and the spray instantly kills nasty odour-causing bacteria. The scent is minty since it’s formulated with tea-tree oil, but what I love the most is how it leaves my feet cooled and refreshed. Definitely a summer staple. …

Oh hey – I’m at 8K

Hi friends, My training has been going a tad slow for my upcoming half-marathon, but 8K with a time of 47 minutes isn’t terrible. It’s not the worst, but I certainly know I can do better. On Saturday I attempted to run 8K but woke up SUPER hungry and ate to my hearts content and (like the smart person I am in the morning), went for the run immediately after. I went maybe 3K, felt sick, turned around and walked home. Rookie mistake. This morning I learnt from my mistake and had a small bowl of cereal, a glass of water and ventured back out there. The run this morning was SO MUCH BETTER! I felt refreshed and the weather was perfect (cloudy with a bit of precipitation – just the way I like it). I find between 5K-6K is the hardest for me. That’s the time when my feet start to hurt and my breathing becomes heavier. Once I get past 6K, I usually get a good pace going and it’s smooth sailing from there. Many …

This is how I feel…

…when I walk outside to discover it’s cold and raining. Does summer not know it’s July? If I see snow before September rolls around, I’m moving to Death Valley, California (which, upon Googling, is the hottest place on earth and currently 46°C – TAKE ME THERE).

Summer List Update – 2014

Hiii! I hope you’re all well and enjoying your sum-sum-summah! Finally, I have found some time to update you on my summer to-do list (we’re halfway there people). I’m a tad sleepy this morning since my family and I went on a rafting trip in Paris, Ontario yesterday for 6 hours – twas a lovely time with great company and perfect weather. Without further ado, here is my update! JESSICA’S SUMMER GOALS 2014 – click HERE for full list. 2. Make an ultimate summer playlist. Pshhh, easy. Click HERE for playlist! 4. Volunteer. Packed lunches at the OXOMillionMeals event – one million meals for one million people across North America! I even ran into supermodels like Stacey McKenzie (she’s like, so gorg). 6. Also, I want to thank everyone who has given me words of encouragement and helpful tips on how to properly prepare for it. 🙂 8. Participate in the “Color Me Rad” 5K …

ANGEL WING SPLASH PATTERN BY RICHARD VAN CAMP

Angel Wing Splash Pattern is a collection of short stories for dreamers, believers and readers who want a raw look into a corner of Canada that is often over-looked: Contemporary Native life. Each story within the book is only a few pages long (the entire book itself is only 110 pages), but I find Van Camp’s writing so profound and thought-provoking that a few pages is all you need. Quality over quantity. The way Van Camp lures you into the heat of his characters and the way he makes your mind wander about sex, love, compassion and forgiveness is.. well.. it’s flippin’ beautiful. One of my favourite stories is called My Fifth Step and ’till this day no story, ever, has made me feel so much emotion. I don’t know how to properly describe it because saying it made me “feel” doesn’t attest to the fact how meaningful this story truly is to me. It made me re-think how I should treat other people, the importance of being in the moment and how to forgive and move on. I highly recommend …

Lavish picnic, upcoming project & half-marathon training

Hi all, Guess what? I went for a 6K run this morning! It felt good to get outside and be active on the first official day of SUMMMAAAHH! Speaking of which, my summer goals are going swimmingly, but we’re not talking about that today (although look for an update soon – you’re going to be so proud). I’m writing this post to give a little inside scoop of what I’ve been up to as of late: Recently went to Trinity Bellwoods and had a romantic picnic with the Lotus Leaf crew. We hung out, played Cards Against Humanity and drank pitchers of yummy sangria. The perfect post-work activity. Thanks again Tori for setting all this up for us! Earlier this week I collaborated with online shopping site “BRIKA” and DIY/lifestyle blog “My Little Secrets” to film a fun how-to video! If you’re someone who loves making super cute jewellery for the summer season, you won’t want to miss out on this one. I am editing now and hopefully it will be posted on the blog next week! Below are my snazzy …

IT SMELLS LIKE SUMMER!

My friend Kristin once told me that she loves the smell of sunscreen because it means you’re doing something active and exciting that day, like going to the beach, a festival or any other enjoyable summer activity. If the word “fun” had a scent I’d be the pungent scent of sunscreen. If you were to creepily smell my skin right now, fun is exactly what I smell like. I get asked all the time what sun products I love and as your uncertified beauty advisor, here are a few I use and recommend: For my body I use Hawaiian Tropic’s Shimmer Effect, which smells like coconuts and makes your skin sparkle (as a result, would not recommend for your face). It also nicely protects and complements your limbs as you strut in the sunlight. For my face I use Neutrogena’s Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch sunscreen. A scent-free option that is light-weight, waterproof and contains a high SPF. We’re all guilty of forgetting to reapply sunscreen throughout the day, and resembling a peeling lobster is not cute. If I’m …

Color Me Rad 2014

Katie, Nicole and I participated in the “Color Me Rad” 5k run on Saturday! Here are the top moments of the day: Got dazzled up in our RAD gear. Tattoos and sunglasses were included in our packs. Nicole provided the knee-high socks, I made us all headbands and Katie whipped up some protein pancakes that morning – they were deeeelicious! Warmed up before the race with a little bit of zumba. Hilariously tripped over each other because we couldn’t see from the amount of chalk in our eyes. Also, can we acknowledge my glorious fanny pack? Pretty sure it was my dad’s in the 80’s. The colour stations were the best part. Casually got boxes of purple, blue and orange chalk poured over us as we ran by. Was it chalk? Baking powder with colour maybe? All I know is that it stained my tank top, even after two washes. #WorthIt WE FINISHED THE RACE! Running 5k was not so bad, we certainly could’ve kept going. Good job team! I don’t know who the person was who …
