Caught my first fish!

Another summer goal crossed off! 5. Go to Keswick and canoe/fish on the lake with my boyfriend.  The past two days my boyfriend and I ventured to Keswick to relax, hang out, and get away from our jobs to enjoy some summer to ourselves. During the day we mostly spent our time reading on his back porch (because we can be an elderly couple sometimes), barbecued some hamburgers, and watched more episodes of Gilmore Girls (currently on season 4, where Rory goes off to Yale). Before dinner, Kyle and I went to go sit by the lake. Pretty huh? It was a private area that was fenced off, but we hopped the fence anyway ’cause we’re reckless and young… obviously. While I was hopping over, trying to be some sort of “rebellious” teenager, a piece of the fence caught onto my jean pocket and ripped a small whole. Not the smartest idea I’ve ever had, but I think it adds character. In the evening, his mom would start cooking dinner where she would make the BEST steak and potatoes …

10 things I need to start doing

1. Drink a lot more water I drink at least 2 or 3 glasses a day, but I need to triple that! 2. Eat fruit and vegetable and natural foods I’m trying my best this summer to eat a little more healthily. For snacks instead of grabbing for chips or cookies, I go for cheese slices or carrots. But, sometimes I will cave in and eat an entire carton of ice cream. I need to stop doing that. 3. Read a book I want to read A LOT more but when I get home from work I crash and don’t want to do anything but sleep and veg. I do bring a book to work and read on my break, but I want to read more than just fifteen minutes a day. 4. Go to bed earlier 11:30pm is early for me, so around that time is usually my goal every night. 5. Do not judge or compare myself to others We all have this problem. 6. Do not pull things off Especially in the summer when I’m always feeling …

Patio livin’

Hey guys! Guess what? Another summer goal is officially crossed off! *happy dance* 21. Eat at a restaurant I’ve never been to before. MUST HAVE A PATIO! Em and I ate at Rex’s in Toronto where I had a burger and fries and Em had their salad. It was deeeeeelicious! I usually think mayo on a burger is a weird concept, but I thought I’d be adventurous and try it anyway and all I have to say is – WHERE HAS MAYO BEEN ALL MY LIFE?! Mmm. Honestly, what’s better on a summer day than a patio with perfect weather, great food, beer and a best friend! 🙂 How have you guys been enjoying your long weekend? I’ve been working a lot. I pass out every time I get in the door – yeeeshh. I do, however, have tomorrow off and plan on going to the zoo with Kyle. Day dates are the best dates! XO Jessica

Inventory expert?

Yesterday I spent a couple hours taking inventory of everything at my work. I tallied everything including every box of pies, tarts, scones, ice-cream (which meant I spent a good 15 minutes in the walk-in deep freezer – brr), candy, cheese, soda, fudge, bean soups, etc. I just got an e-mail from my manager saying how I did… Hey Jess, Just wanted to let you know you did a great job on the inventory yesterday! Just checked everything and it was perfect!! Thanks! Did you read the perfect part? Yeah, perfect.

THE #1 QUESTION I GET ASKED

“What’s your nationality?” At least once a day, someone asks me this question. Answer: Canadian Sub-answer: Chinese and French Of course I never get annoyed at answering, I’m proud to say who I am and where I’ve come from. Usually people respond with, “oh really? That’s an unusual mix” or they oddly want to know which one of my parents is the Asian one. I never understood why they’d want to know this… Another common question I get asked is, “what do you consider yourself mostly. French or Chinese?” Canadian. That’s what I consider myself first and foremost. Growing up, I was never confused or thought about which nationality I am “more” of. I was born in Canada, I’m Canadian. My dad’s side is from China and my mom’s side from New Brunswick. So, I am both Chinese and French. Not just one or the other. I remember this was a discussion in one of my English classes, the topic of “identity” and what you consider yourself if both of your parents are different nationalities. The …

ROOM. CLEANED.

It took me two full days but…MY ROOM IS FINALLY TIDY! FIRST SUMMER GOAL CROSSED OFF! YAHOO! 11. Completely clean my room, every nook and corner. Get rid of anything I do not use or wear. I didn’t realize how much GARBAGE, CLOTHES and PAPERS I had under my desk, in my closet, and under my bed. I had to use three full black garbage bags for my trash. Not to mention, boxes and boxes of clothes and toys i’m going to donate. It’s going to be a relief to wake up tomorrow to a nice, organized, well put together room! 🙂 BEFORE: YUCK! All the dust on my vanity desk. Not so cute. AFTER: Ahh, much better! How freaky is my McQueen book on the desk and in the mirror. Two different faces. Spooky. My closet was a WHOLE other room itself, but I cleared it out like a champ! No more losing perfumes (which was actually a problem). I found a bandana in my closet from when I was 10 or 11! I wore …

Engagement party and why you shouldn’t trust kimchi

Hey all! I know I’ve been M.I.A for the past few days, but after exams I needed a much deserved break! My boyfriend and I went to Keswick for the weekend where we permanently situated ourselves on the couch and watched The Game Show Network (Newlyweds Show and Family Feud mostly) while eating bottomless pits of Smart Food. In the middle of our couch potato laziness, we DID got up for two very important reasons 1) Attending our first engagement party. Kyle’s friends Matt and Mel are tying the knot! Did I mention they’re our age? TWENTY-ONE! It freaks me out! The thought of ’till death do us part at this age is crazy because…after marriage is babies…and saving up for their future…and having your own career…and buying a house…and insurance…and mortgages…AHH, ADULT RESPONSIBILITIES! The average age to get married in 2012 is 26-28, so you can understand why young adults like myself get freaked out when the thought of “I do” is SOO far in the future. I guess 21 isn’t TOO young, but I still think of myself and all of my …

STRIPPING TO PAY FOR SCHOOL

One would likely categorize a stripper as, “those girls” in rap videos who are drug addicted high school drop-outs who give up their bodies to 40-something year old men to make a few thousand a night. For those of you who see strippers in that perspective, it’s because that’s how the media portrays them. Let me be the first to tell you, it’s not true in the slightest. Would it surprise you if I said most girls who work in strip clubs are currently attending respected universities or own a business on the side? Talking with *Nicole, a young woman who is bright, friendly, and currently finishing up her post-secondary education – you would never guess she dances on a stage to pay for her living expenses, textbooks, and food. To understand why she strips, one has to understand her life story. Nicole grew up with a “hippy” mother who painted, walked in the nude, and dabbled in tarot card readings. As a young girl, she was always told to be comfortable in her body and take pride in who she is. Bringing me back to …
