How I did on my summer list

I didn’t complete it. 😦

Tears are forming because it’s the last day of summer and I told myself to FINISH THIS LIST – but, as you can see, not all these goals are in bold. Such a disappointment. However, considering my unexpected full-time internship and part-time job in the beginning of the summer, I did a pretty good job!

The bolded are complete…

1. Spend $50 on Summer apparel.

Pshh, this was easy.

2. Buy fabrics and design a summer collection. 

I re-arranged this one, but I crossed it off  because I DID make a shirt and some shorts, but unless I hired little sewers who can work from my room, I didn’t have the time to make more.

3. Attend a live-taping of the The Marilyn Denis Show.

Meh, I’m not too sad this didn’t happen. I did see the studio this summer, can I count that? 

4. Make a summer playlist. Will post playlist when made.

This is practically the first thing I did once my final exam was over!

5. Go to Keswick and canoe/fish on the lake with my boyfriend. :)

6. Go to Wonderland and ride THE LEVIATHAN. AHH, love rollar coasters!

WAHH! 😦

7. Attend a Blue Jay’s game.

Went for my boyfriends birthday! 

8. Buy one new nail polish and beauty product once a month.

Ahh yeahh! I have so many new products! 🙂

9. Have something published.

TECHNICALLY, I haven’t had anything published, but during my internship, the facts I researched about the athletes and teams during the summer Olympic Games were broadcasted and I can’t believe that millions of people heard my writing. So cool.

10. Watch all episodes I’ve missed of Grey’s Anatomy, Gossip Girl, 90210, America’s Next Top Model and How I Met Your Mother. Finish seasons of Gilmore Girl, Dawson’s Creek and Lost.

I did a lot of  TV catching up this summer, it was unbelievable. 

11. Completely clean my room, every nook and corner. Get rid of anything I do not use or wear.

I wish I kept it that way.

12. Go on a picnic.

The saddest. I want to go on a picnic so badly. Basket and all. 😦

13. Attend a drive-in.

Apparently my boyfriend is taking me soon…I’m holding this to him.

14. Discover/make a new summer drink mixture.

WHITE FREEZIE! 

15. Get my smart-serve.

Ahh man. I totally forgot about this until now. 

16. Start a YouTube channel. Have at least 50 subscribers by the end of the summer.

I loved making videos this summer! I hope to continue them throughout the year! However, I only made 33 subscribers, but I’m crossing it off because 33 is still a pretty good number!

17. CUBA! Enough said.

SO MUCH FUN!

18. Write a hand-written letter to one of my idols.

It wasn’t hand-written. But, I did write to one of my idols. 😉

19. Bake something fancy with one of my best friends.

CUPCAKES! They weren’t fancy, but they sure were delicious. 

20. Read the entire Harry Potter series. Have Harry Potter marathon of all movies.

I’m on book four, but I do intend to continue the series until I finish them. So. CROSSING IT OFF! 

21. Eat at a restaurant I’ve never been to before. MUST HAVE A PATIO!

Yum! 

22. Purchase a fashion magazine I’ve never read before.

I practically only buy magazines I’ve never read before.

23. GET AN INTERNSHIP FOR THE FALL!

This one is to be continued…something in the works I suppose…will talk about it later. Until then, CROSSING IT OFF! 

18 out of 23 complete!

Not good, but not bad.

Next summer I’ll be done school, so expect my list will be RIDICULOUS! Many more adventures and stories await.

Farewell summer 2012 – it’s time for colder weather and new leaves to turn.

Everyone loves a good stud – D.I.Y

I did it. I went stud crazy.

Pants, shoes, shorts…you name it, I put a stud on it.

They’re easy to put on, you pin them – no need for glue or sewing. They’re cheap, any fabric store you can get 100 studs for $20. Compared to the $75 pair of studded shorts you can get at Urban Outfitters, it’s a pretty good deal.

These are an old pair of J. Crew skinny’s! I put the studs right above the pocket to spruce up the look!

Put a couple of them on ankle booties, definitely a big change! No longer plain and drab!

My favourite! Right on the back pocket! Side note, it doesn’t hurt when I sit.

What do you guys think? A timeless fall trend if you ask me.

What a woman and great example of a first lady!

Everyone loves a haircut and a heart to heart

Hey all!

I went to the BEST hair salon today in my hometown. My hairdresser and I had this 30 minute heart-to-heart on how I should travel when I’m young and experience all the culture I can before I start my career, get married, or have kids. He was from Cuba and said he went to school for business because his parents forced him to. Then, when he graduated, he handed them his diploma and said, “now I’m going to do what I want to do.”

He travelled all over the world, cutting and styling hair – perfecting his trade. He finally came to Canada (not knowing a word of English) and started his own business. Now he’s incredibly happy and loves what he does and the people he works with.

What an inspiration.

He told me about his adventures of spending an entire year in Paris, a year in Spain, and…practically every where else.

He’s been everywhere in the world EXCEPT Asia, and is forcing me to go to “live it up for the both of us” since he’s settled down in his career. He told me the next time I come back, I better have pictures to show him.

I love talking to people like him. They have such a passion for life and they let young people like myself know that there’s an entire WORLD outside this small town. That there’s more than ONE option – whether it comes to a career or where you should settle down. It’s a good reminder ’cause there’s a lot of young adults who come from a small town (like myself) and only see one pathway to success and I for one DO NOT want to be blind to the opportunities that present itself… especially if it’s an opportunity to travel.

TURNING OLD JEANS INTO TRENDY SHORTS

Take an old pair of wide legged jeans. Don’t use skinny jeans, they make it look like you’re wearing spandex.

Cut your desired length. Make sure you go diagonal, like below!

Grab some paint! I’m using colours such as blue, black, white, red, and purple!

Start going to town! Smudge the paint EVERYWHERE. Mixing the colours together is ideal. Make sure you get the back!

I distressed mine at the front. Make sure you have cardboard or a magazine underneath so you don’t put holes on the other side of the shorts.

After that, you’re done! 🙂

Garage sale finds – shelf, jewelry, handbag

First thing you need to know. My mom is a SERIOUS garage saler. She gets up almost every Saturday morning at 7:30 a.m. to LEAVE by 8:00 a.m. to get the great deals around the area. She always seems to find the best bargins (today she bought a digital camcorder for $10), not to mention somehow knows everyone she talks to! I went with her today and found some great treasures of my own! 🙂

Mini silver shelf – $3

Thought this could be a great add to my room. It can neatly hold all my lotions, sprays, and nail polishes. Yay to organization! Bonus – IT HAS WHEELS!

Flower stud earrings – $1 for both

I’m in love. How can you not be in love with these? They’re adorable!

Silver stacked ring and gold bracelet – $5 for both

Every garage sale, I go STRAIGHT toward the jewelry! These items and the earrings above are the reason why.

Wicked the novel – $ 1

Read the prologue thus far and it’s already wickedly awesome…haha…ha. Love Wizard of Oz, so I can’t wait to read this one (after I complete my Harry Potter series of course…still on book four).

Handbag – $8

It immediately caught my eye. The colour (neutral, can go with everything), the size (big, can fit A LOT), the straps (comfortably fits on my shoulders). Plus, I needed a bag, the one I always carry is slowly breaking (also bought at a garage sale 😉 ).

All in all, I say a successful garage sale adventure! 🙂

ALMOST THERE

Now that the summer Olympic Games in London are drawing to a close, my internship at Canada’s Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium is coming to an end as well! I’ve worked with some amazing people and had the best learning experience working behind the scenes of CTV and TSN.

Working closely with TSN reporter Kate Beirness has taught me about the dedication and passion one must have if you want to work in a career such a journalism. The best advice she gave me? “If you want to be on TV – you HAVE to be on TV every day, find a small local television station and start there. “They don’t care if you mess up on-air, the only people who are watching are seniors over 65 waiting for the lottery numbers to show,” she said. Sad, but true.

Now that this amazing learning experience is over, what’s next for me?

I’ll let you know once I catch up on two weeks of sleep.
