NEW YEAR, NEW ME?

HAPPY 2018 MY LOVES! Typically around the holiday season I get a little somber, especially since it’s my third year in a row away from my family. But, if I learned anything from the past few years is that you make your own happiness. I repeat: YOU MAKE YOUR OWN HAPPINESS! Instead of curling into a ball and hiding away, on Christmas Eve I headed to Seoul to be with my friend Annie and celebrate December 25th with red bean donuts, ice skating, and treating myself with skincare related prezzies. And of course, I vlogged it all for ya. My New Years Eve was way less eventful. I bundled up at home in my thickest blanket, gathered my favorite junk food (chicken burgers, french fries, popcorn, and chocolate ice cream), and had a solo Harry Potter movie marathon. It. Was. Ah-mazing. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is by far the best movie of them all. I fell asleep around 11PM (lol, living the dream!) and woke up at 1:30AM with texts from my family …

THE HOLIDAYS ARE HERE

Christmas isn’t a big deal on this side of the world, it’s another Valentine’s Day for couples to hold hands, take pictures with pretty lights, and have a quarrel by 8PM. You’re not in an official relationship in Korea until one of you storms off in rage in public. Sighhh, I love witnessing real life K-dramas. It also doesn’t snow in Busan so it hardly feels like the festive season. But even when the weather does get below zero, I still order vanilla milkshakes (I can’t be the only one!) because how could you say no when it comes with a topping of caramel corn! There have been a couple frigid days in the city, but that’s just a valid excuse to eat a copious amount of hot noodle soups. Whether it’s ramen, pho, or a kimchi jjigae, noodles are my ultimate comfort food. My favourite kind of noods are the ones sold in the alley ways of Nampo. You just pop a squat with an ajumma and eat what they serve ya. This isn’t the …

CHRISTMAS LIGHTS GALORE

It’s Sunday afternoon and I am sitting on my unmade bed, listening to Christmas carols. Currently blasting Holly Jolly Christmas by Michael Bublé wondering if neighbours have left a note outside to turn it down. Just checked, NO NOTE! But there was a chicken menu magnetized to my door. *immediately throws in garbage*  I cannot believe it is December! It’s going to be weird not seeing snow during the holiday season or having to worry about salt on my boots. I do plan on going skiing in SoKo sometime in February. I haven’t narrowed down which slopes I want to try, but will surely let you know when I do. In the meantime, I am counting down until my trip to Chiang Mai, Thailand. 42 more sleeps! Last week I went to a delicious dessert cafe in Seomyeon called Molle. My friend Hayden and I ordered a chocolate berry cake and an earl grey apple latte. The decorations in the cafe were cozy and stylish – marble top tables, pillows on chairs, dainty decorations such …

The Holiday

I’m not totally clear on how or why I haven’t seen The Holiday before last night. I bawled for the last 25 minutes of the movie but not a “I’m sad” sort of cry, more like, “I can relate to this situation, Kate Winslet you’re my spirit animal and Jude Law is so handsome I can’t even handle it” type. Ya know? What I loved most about the flick was its reliability. From my interpretation, The Holiday circled around the importance of letting people into your life who make you feel significant. All four main characters – Iris, Amanda, Miles and Graham craved a certain kind of attention, the type that makes you feel loved and attained by someone else. For example Iris, Kate Winslet’s character, was in an unfortunate situation where she was with a guy for three years who wanted her, but didn’t want to love her. It’s a mind-game people play and fall victim to. We let people into our lives who don’t see us as significant enough to respect our feelings or have the nerve to communicate theirs. …

THE BODY SHOP: SATSUMA FESTIVE PICKS

What I love about gifting bath products is that we all bathe (at least I hope so) which means everyone can appreciate a good-smelling, bath-related gift. The Body Shop has come out with their festive picks again for the holiday season and I am all over it. These pretty products come pre-packaged in a nice festive box so essentially, just put a bow on it and call it a day (all about that easy route). If you know someone who has a hard time opening their eyes in the morning or falls asleep while eating their breakfast, you need to introduce them to satsuma. Did you know that the reason we typically drink orange juice in the AM is because the odour of citrus ignites our brain to make us feel more energized and refreshed? The more you know.. That is exactly what the scent of satsuma does, it’s the alternative to coffee. 😉 Festive box contains: – Satsuma Shower Gel 250 ml – Satsuma Body Butter 50 ml – Satsuma Body Polish 75 ml (my personal fav, …

What I want for Christmas – 2013

I’ve been noticing my “What I Want For Christmas” post from last year is getting a lot of hits. Makes sense. It’s the festive holiday season and civilians on the interweb are on the hunt for gift ideas. So, I thought to myself – “what do I want for Christmas this year…” I typically write a list of materialistic items, print it out and leave it on the fridge for various family members to see. While I’d appreciate a nice knitted sweater or two, to be honest, I don’t want anything. Seriously. I don’t NEED anything. Plus, what I truly want this year is not something someone can wrap in a big red bow. Lately, I’ve been making a serious effort to re-start myself. This means working on my confidence, health, learning new skills, letting a variety of new friends into my life and most importantly, pin-pointing exactly where I want my career to go. It’s certainly a process, but an important one nonetheless. The year 2014 is a fresh canvas and I’ve been preparing myself to be …

What I want for Christmas

I get it. Christmas isn’t for a month and a half, but I prepared my list for my family and friends to see, just incase they were wondering what lovely, materialistic things I want for the holidays. 😉 1. Headphones Whether I’m at school, reading or walking down the street, I have my I-Pod playing pretty much all day. I hate the little earbuds that come with your I-Pod. They keep falling from my ears and they break SO easily. I swear I’ve been through at least six of them within this past year. These ones are Beats By Dre, but any earphones that resemble this in any colour will be perfect! 2. Bedsheets I’ve had the same ones since high school. Time to be a grown up. I LOVE these ones from Urban Outfitters! Black and white patterns (like the photo below) are my favourite. 3. Clothes Rack ($12) I’ve wanted one for years, and I have no idea why I haven’t just gone out and got it for myself. Regardless, this one is …
