Sh*t my mom says…

“And people from my high school are getting engaged, to like, real people. Not like, oh I’m going to marry a Backstreet Boy, but actually progressing in life.”
Every summer, I have goals. I write them down in list form and every year I try to complete it. Some summers I am successful, other summers (like this one), I am not. Although, it’s not for a lack of trying. Life happens, you change, things come up, etc. The summer started out with reality slapping me right in the face. May was a month of heartbreak. However, after picking myself up and discovering a new found feeling of independence, it was time to focus on me. My summer list was out of the question. I had absolutely NO free time to do anything. I was on the go 24/7. June rolled around and I officially graduated! As much as I felt excited, I was extremely overwhelmed. New questions started to roll into my mind – what’s next for me? Where do I want to work? Where do I want to live? I’ve never put myself through this kind of stress. Hence, the shingles. Honestly, the shings were probably the best thing to happen to me that month. …
I was reading a post on Lauren Conrad’s website called, “Ten Important Lessons They Don’t Teach You In School.” She had great advice to share such as “make your mother proud” and “never settle.” However, this one was my favourite… 7. The happiest people have low expectations, few desires, and great appreciation for the little things. Every so often, we are all guilty of focusing on things we don’t have, things we want, and things that aren’t perfect in our lives. These thoughts will only lead to an ungrateful mentality, and the never-ending search for a “perfect” life that doesn’t exist. It is great to have goals and things to look forward to. Don’t get me wrong—I love saving up for a brand new purse as much as any girl! But I find that I am much happier when I focus on the small blessings and the things I have instead of worrying about what I don’t have. Take a few minutes each day to yourself and think about how grateful you are for your family, your friends, …
If I were a cat, I’d be doing the exact same thing.
Hello all, It has been awhile since I’ve given an in-depth life update! Luckily for you, today is my first FULL day off since January, which means I have time to sit down and reflect back on everything. After finishing school in December and completing two (editorial and beauty) internships, not to mention a part-time job and other side projects. I can finally relax for a bit. The past few months I’ve aged myself by at least seven years. I don’t feel like I’m 22, which both scares and delights me. It scares me because I want to live my life as a normal young adult where I can act crazy, travel, and not have to constantly remind myself that I need to have fun while I’m still wild and free (even Taylor Swift agrees). This past year alone, I’ve grown-up a lot. I’m not the same person I was a year ago and I’ll be the first to tell you: growing pains are the worst. There were times I overwhelmed myself with questions such …

I’d like to think I give pretty good advice. At least, that’s what my friends tell me. I always have something to say in every situation, whether it’s positive or giving some tough love. Even if I don’t have proper advice, I crack out my cheesy jokes and I can at least make them laugh. Or, I’ll get them ice cream, because everyone is happy when they have ice cream. I may not have been through a whole lot to know exactly how a person is feeling in certain situations, but I think I’m pretty good at getting inside their head and figuring out how to fix it or what to say to make them realize that not everything is lost. Until the other day. I was with my friend and he opened up to me in a way I never thought he would. He told me the saddest, most heartbreaking story about what’s going on in his life. Everything I thought was tough in my own life went right out the window. When he finished talking, …
I feel incredibly happy and proud for surviving the past four and a half years. I’ve had such an amazing experience at U of T and I’m so lucky to have had unbelievable support. My graduation ceremony was surprisingly well organized (it was only an hour) and our speaker, Tanya Mars, kept her speech short, sweet, and inspirational. The day was perfect to reunite with old friends and to officially have that expensive piece of paper in my hands. HONOURS BACHELOR OF ARTS DEGREE! *happy dance, happy dance, happy dance* I want to send one last thank you to everyone who have made my university experience incredible: – My loving family for dealing with my stress and mood swings during exam time. Also, big thank you for my parents for driving me to school every morning (special thanks to my mom for screaming “I LOVE YOU! HAVE A GREAT DAY!” every time I walked out of the car). – My friends, there are so many of you, I don’t know where to start. Thank you to those who …
I took a couple photos of my mom’s little backyard flowers. They’re certainly pretty.
For a couple weeks, I haven’t quite been myself. I’ve been extremely tired, not really eating and energy level notably low. A couple weeks ago I started to notice I was losing weight, been getting painful migraines, high fevers at night and developing unpleasant blisters on one side of my mouth. It came to the point where I was upset all the time because I was in so much pain and was scared to know what my body was telling me. My mom finally took me to see the dentist, since it was the blisters in my mouth that was probably causing all the agony. At the dentist, they took a few x-rays, looked around and immediately knew what I had. Shingles. You’re probably thinking, “What? Don’t old people typically get that?” Yes they do, which is why I’m restricted from visiting old folks homes. However, it’s not uncommon for young people like myself to develop shingles as well. My dentist told me shingles come from the same virus as the chicken pox. Once you have …
