THE BODY SHOP: SATSUMA FESTIVE PICKS

What I love about gifting bath products is that we all bathe (at least I hope so) which means everyone can appreciate a good-smelling, bath-related gift. The Body Shop has come out with their festive picks again for the holiday season and I am all over it. These pretty products come pre-packaged in a nice festive box so essentially, just put a bow on it and call it a day (all about that easy route). If you know someone who has a hard time opening their eyes in the morning or falls asleep while eating their breakfast, you need to introduce them to satsuma. Did you know that the reason we typically drink orange juice in the AM is because the odour of citrus ignites our brain to make us feel more energized and refreshed? The more you know.. That is exactly what the scent of satsuma does, it’s the alternative to coffee. 😉 Festive box contains: – Satsuma Shower Gel 250 ml – Satsuma Body Butter 50 ml – Satsuma Body Polish 75 ml (my personal fav, …

September 2014 Favourites

One. Bath & Body Works Country Chic Shower Gel, $12.50 I’m not too picky when it comes to shower gels, they just need to lather well, clean my body and leave my skin smelling hella-amazing. This one from B&B has been a favourite this month and it smells like a mix of lemon, raspberry and amber wood. I approve. Two. G.R.L – Vacation We all know I’m a lover of all-girl pop groups. It’s a guilty pleasure. The song “Vacation” by G.R.L has been on repeat throughout the month of September. It’s a good song to get you dancing in the morning. Three. Stila Stay All Day 10-in-1 HD Beauty Balm, $38 You’re technically supposed to apply this balm underneath foundation, but I simply wear it on its own. It’s tinted, lightweight and it doesn’t look or feel like you’re wearing anything at all. Great to slab on every morning for a nice light coverage, although I’d recommend a light foundation or concealer overtop if you need more coverage. Four. Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson A classic read. I …

Beauty Crisis by Teen Vogue

I have a special place in my heart for Teen Vogue. They were the first magazine to teach me at a young age that fashion and beauty are truly indispensable tools of self expression. I admire the fun, upbeat content as well as their helpful and honest advice for young girls and boys who strive for a career in fashion (cc Teen Vogue Handbook). They are also the publication who introduced me to my idol, Eva Chen (whom I declared my love for HERE, HERE and HERE). Recently, Teen Vogue came out with a video series on YouTube called “Beauty Crisis” where Elaine Welteroth (Teen Vogue’s Beauty & Health Director) and Phillip Picardi (Teen Vogue’s Online Beauty Editor, although, now works as the Senior Beauty Editor at Refinery 29) work together and collaborate with vloggers on YouTube to help them with their beauty tribulations. I absolutely love Elaine and Phillip together, they’re so entertaining, humble and pretty much everything I strive to be one day. Currently wondering how one can become friends with them. Since I love their video series …

Bling It On: Romance

My friend Glam Mandie gifted me a “Nails Inc. Bling It on Bow & Crystals – Romance” set last year and I haven’t opened it up..UNTIL NOW! I don’t know why it’s taken me an entire year to open this sucker, probably because I was intimidated by 3-D sparkly gemstones sticking out from my nails. However, the whole 3-D nail trend has been red hot so I thought I’d attempt to fit in with the cool kids and give it a go. The nail glue included within the kit is seriously NO JOKE! It sticks those gems and bows on like super glue (is it actually super glue? I wouldn’t be surprised). The day I placed them on my nails I made guacamole, emptied the dishwasher, did my laundry, cleaned my room and took a shower – NOTHING FELL OFF! (Side note, can we acknowledge how productive of a day I had?) Which brings me to my main concern… NOTHING FELL OFF! Not too sure how I’m going to remove them but, we’ll get there when we get there. Ugh, …

Footlogix Foot Deodorant

I know I’m not the only one who’s ever taken their flats off after a long day of work and noticed a slight stench coming from the shoe area. You know exactly what I’m talking about. It’s summer, you’re barely ever wearing socks so feet are bound to get a little sweaty. As a result, it’s perfectly normal for them to not smell like jasmine cherry blossoms or your mom’s freshly baked cookies. Of course, you can try remedies such as sprinkling baby powder or trying to hide the stench with strongly scented lotions, but might I suggest something meant for situations such as this? Footlogix Foot Deodorant Spray ($19). I’ve been carrying this sucker EVERYWHERE with me this summer. It’s compact to fit in my purse and whenever I need a nice refreshment I take it out, spritz it all over my feet and the spray instantly kills nasty odour-causing bacteria. The scent is minty since it’s formulated with tea-tree oil, but what I love the most is how it leaves my feet cooled and refreshed. Definitely a summer staple. …

IT SMELLS LIKE SUMMER!

My friend Kristin once told me that she loves the smell of sunscreen because it means you’re doing something active and exciting that day, like going to the beach, a festival or any other enjoyable summer activity. If the word “fun” had a scent I’d be the pungent scent of sunscreen. If you were to creepily smell my skin right now, fun is exactly what I smell like. I get asked all the time what sun products I love and as your uncertified beauty advisor, here are a few I use and recommend: For my body I use Hawaiian Tropic’s Shimmer Effect, which smells like coconuts and makes your skin sparkle (as a result, would not recommend for your face). It also nicely protects and complements your limbs as you strut in the sunlight. For my face I use Neutrogena’s Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch sunscreen. A scent-free option that is light-weight, waterproof and contains a high SPF. We’re all guilty of forgetting to reapply sunscreen throughout the day, and resembling a peeling lobster is not cute. If I’m …

Beauty Innovation: 3-D Print Makeup

Grace Choi may have just changed the face of the cosmetic industry. The Harvard business beauty has come up with an extravagant sort-of-doesn’t-seem-real method of printing your own makeup right at home. Before you become a skeptic, it seems like Choi has a method to her madness. Her research at Harvard made her realize that cosmetic brands such as Urban Decay, MAC, Bobbi Brown, etc. create countless numbers of eyeshadow/cheek colours for each season. It would cost a fortune for any beauty guru to try and keep up with the latest trends. So, Choi has come up with a wallet friendly way to get your makeup in the 21st century. Her research indicated that the ink in printer cartridges is the same ink used in cosmetics, both are FDA-approved. As a result, choi developed a mini 3-D printer called “Mink” that allows anyone to print eye and cheek colours from a click of a button. Read the rest of my post by clicking here: FASHIONOTES.

NATURAL SPRING LOOK: PURE ANADA COSMETICS

I was first introduced to Pure Anada when producing the Winter 2014 beauty spread for Canadian Family. I researched about the Canadian cosmetic company and loved the fact their products were all natural and selection of skincare and nail polish lines were actually ah-mazing (which is why I featured them in the magazine). Pure Anada’s Natural Mascara ($14) is formulated to be PH balanced and not supposed to sting your retinas. I find a majority of mascaras burn my eyes if any amount of product get into them. It’s awkward explaining to people that the reason why my eyes are draining like faucets is because a little mascara got into my eye. Ugh, it’s the worst, especially since I have to take it off or re-apply with another product. Funny story, last weekend I drove my friend Katie and I to Target and while driving she was making me laugh obnoxiously (as per usual) and my eyes started to water. A whole bunch of mascara (was wearing Rimmel Lash Accelerator that day) got into my eyes and I couldn’t see …

Bobbi Brown & Girl Rising’s Global Campaign

Bobbi Brown & Girl Rising have teamed together for International Women’s Day (March 8) to bring awareness and raise money for girls around the world who don’t have access to an education. If you’re a student, think about how lucky you are. Before you complain about studying for tests or waking up super early for class, know that 65 million girls around the world do not attend school because a) they can’t afford it or b) 14 million of those girls are under 18 and will be married this year. When girls marry, their education almost always comes to an end. I am very passionate about “girl power” (thanks to the Spice Girls for instilling that trait into 7 year-old me) and want to make my readers aware of Girl Rising’s Global Campaign. If you want to help, Bobbi Brown has released a mascara called “Pretty Powerful Mascara” and all proceeds ($25) will go toward Girl Rising to help educate a girl so she can be independent and have a more prosperous future.

The Balm: Manizer Duo Kit (Review/Demo)

LIKE: – Packaging is ADORABLE. Betty-Lou is so bronzed and pretty, ugh I miss summer. – Quirky names. – Product picks up well on brushes. – Creamy, smooth texture. – Natural looking when applied. – Includes a fantastic mirror (you can see your entire face). – Multi-purpose products. Use as eyeshadow or bronzer/luminizer. – Neither have glitter, love the glowy sheen. DISLIKE: – The bronzer fell out of its packaging. As you can see, I have A LOT of positive feedback for The Balm’s Manizer Duo Kit! Highly recommend both products, especially for the Spring/Summer months. Betty-Lou and Mary-Lou would radiate beautifully in direct sunlight. Love them – new obsession!  I’ll let you in on a little secret: All of The Balm products ship FREE within Canada from ObsessedCanada.com (The Manizer Duo Kit is on SALE for $36.00 from $48.00). Let me know if you give it a go and what you think! 🙂

How to get bombshell eyelashes just like Katy Perry

Katy Perry is something of a beauty chameleon. She’s sampled almost every hair colour, can rock a statement lip just as well as a neutral shade and her big blue eyes are completely captivating. While her makeup routine is no doubt always changing, one thing remains consistent: Perry’s bombshell eyelashes. Full of volume, the secret to her iconic lashes is more than an excellent mascara—it’s the work of lash extensions. We spoke to Good Gosh Beauty extension expert Lauren Kurtz about our quest to get the Katy Perry look. Whether you want to try a set of lash extensions or aspire to DIY it at home with false lashes, Kurtz has you covered. If you have small or brittle lashes, extensions are a great way to naturally enhance your eyes. One-by-one, a lash artist will adhere individual synthetic lashes onto your own, making them longer, thicker and curvier—and they can last up to a month.
